An acre of land was recently under consideration for development. If the plan had proceeded this valuable local green space would have been bulldozed and buildings would have been installed. The public would have been denied access.
Local residents and community groups worked together to try and save this land for the benefit of nature and the community. Fortunately the developer has now withdrawn these plans and negotiations are underway between the Greenacre Project and London Borough of Barnet to open a public nature reserve on this site. This is a wonderful opportunity for the local community.
Hedgehogs, bats, foxes and rabbits all live here as well as numerous birds and butterflies. This a lovely suburban green oasis that has suffered from poor management. Unless we can secure this land as an established nature reserve the threat of development will persist.
To ensure that we can create a local nature reserve for our community we need your help. Conservation volunteers have already started work on clearing pathways into the site and rubbish removal. For the long term preservation of this green space we need your support. We need funding and volunteers. Volunteers can help in a variety of roles from joining us on our conservation days - clearing the brambles and nettles, to fund raising, administration and publicity.
We are about to launch The Friends of The GreenAcre Nature Reserve.
